Clinical Mental Health CounselingProfessional Licensure Disclosure

Program preparation for professional licensure or certification

Lynn University undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs emphasize career preparation and intellectual exploration through dialogue and experience. Lynn University is dedicated to providing clear and accurate information to prospective and current students in an attempt to assist in decision making and career planning. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (CMHC) prepares students to practice in the field of professional counseling. Practice in this field is regulated by State Licensure. Many states may provide varying paths to licensure based on a program’s accreditation status.

Although academic preparation is similar in the field of counseling, licensure requirements are on a State by State basis and can vary in course and credit requirements, hours of practicum and internship and licensure titles. If you plan on pursuing licensure or certification in this field, it is important to become aware and knowledgeable on all credentialing requirements of the state in which you hope to practice.

Lynn University program preparation in the state of Florida

The Clinical Mental Health program at Lynn University meets the educational requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. This program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This speaks to the program’s meeting national standards for counselor education and may be important for the pursuit of licensure and certification.

Lynn University program preparation in other U.S. states

Lynn University is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), and is authorized to offer educational programs in all states (except California), the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The state of California is not currently a member of NC-SARA, but Lynn University is authorized to offer educational programming there as well.

Lynn University is unable to verify that this program meets the educational requirements for licensure in any other State where a student may reside or decide to practice.

As you may have an interest in pursuing licensure or professional certification outside of the State of Florida, the program recommends you review the licensure requirements of that location to compare them to those offered in the CMHC at Lynn University. Counseling Licensure information can be found through State Licensing Boards.

The National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) offers a State Board Directory for counseling licensure list and more information at nbcc.org.

We also invite you to contact the program directly through the listed contact below for additional assistance and information pertinent to your career.

Lynn University program preparation outside the U.S.

This disclosure does not address program eligibility in countries outside the United States. We are unable to determine whether or not the CMHC degree program meets the educational requirements for graduates to be eligible to apply for licensure or certification outside the United States. Again, it is important to become educated on the credentialing requirements in the location in which you hope to practice.
