Alanna Lecher, assistant professor of natural and applied sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, presented "Sources of small plastics delineated on Florida beaches" and "A method for integrating science podcasts in the undergraduate classroom" at the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon, in February.

The biennial conference, hosted by the American Geophysical Union, the Association for the Study of Limnology and Oceanography and the Oceanographic Society, explores scientific and educational aspects of oceanography.

Lecher also published two articles in peer-reviews journals: “Piecing together the plastic cycle” in Nature Geoscience presented a new framework for thinking about marine plastic pollution; and “Quantifying processes governing nutrient concentrations in a coastal aquifer via principal component analysis,” in Hydrology explored a new method for investigating water quality of groundwater in coastal settings.
