Nestled on Lynn University's scenic campus, Pine Tree Camps stands as a beacon of summer joy and personal development since its inception in 1978. Founded by Helen L. Ross and Sue Merrill, the camp emerged from humble beginnings to become a treasured institution for families throughout South Florida.

The name for Pine Tree Camps was inspired by the towering pine tree landscape surrounding the campus. Ross and Merrill envisioned a nurturing environment where children could thrive, learn and forge lifelong memories. As years passed, Pine Tree Camps became a second home for many campers and staff members.

A sanctuary of learning and fun

The camp's recipe for success lies in its dedicated and enthusiastic counselors. "Our counselors embody responsibility, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to work with children," said Jayson Rubin, director of Pine Tree Camps. "They serve not only as mentors but as role models. They're committed to making every camper feel supported and empowered."

Campers engage in diverse activities designed to stimulate their minds, bodies and spirits. From sports and swimming to arts and crafts, drama, nature exploration, archery and beyond, campers embark on a journey of self-exploration where they develop essential skills such as teamwork, independence, communication and more.

Melissa Friedel, assistant camp director, reflects on her history at the camp. "For over 30 years, Pine Tree has been my second home—full of laughter, adventure and lifelong friendships," said Friedel. "Our various activities create a nurturing environment that fosters personal growth, encouraging campers to explore their passions, overcome challenges, and emerge as confident, resilient individuals." Pine Tree has become a second home for many others, with staff and campers noting the sense of community at camp.

"Seeing many of the same faces year after year makes it feel like a summer home," said Rubin.

Additional opportunities for campers

Pine Tree offers an overnight camp for campers looking for more than daytime activities. "Parents are delighted when their children return home with newfound skills like bed-making or can confidently navigate new social dynamics," said Rubin. Overnight campers engage in exciting activities in the evening, including campfires, talent shows and off-campus field trips.

Laura Wallace, assistant camp director, looks back on the profound impact of being part of Pine Tree Camps and the overnight camp experience. "Working at Pine Tree for over 20 years has been an incredible journey," said Wallace. "Living and working at camp has allowed me to immerse myself fully in the experience, fostering lifelong memories and connections that continue to enrich my life."

The Pine Tree promise
