As Lynn University concludes another academic year, 982 graduates will earn their diplomas on May 7. Brian Manzanares '24 will address the graduating class as this year's commencement student speaker.

Manzanares is earning his Bachelor of Science in biology, a decision inspired by his lifelong fascination with science, mammals and ecosystems. He spent his undergraduate years actively learning and “paying it forward” outside the classroom, volunteering numerous hours at animal hospitals and rescue clinics. On campus he excelled as a Lynn peer leader, student ambassador and intern for Admission.

Manzanares worked at Sawgrass Nature Center, a wildlife rehabilitation hospital in his hometown of Coral Springs, where he tended to native Florida animals, including wild birds, turtles, raccoons and more. He also served as treasurer of Lynn’s Future Medical Providers (FMP) club, which assists students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. The pre-med club provides guidance on everything from service hours, classes and professors to exams and post-graduate applications.

“Being a commuter student, I consciously tried to be as involved as possible at Lynn. So many doors opened for me here and I’m incredibly grateful,” said Manzanares. “It’s an honor to share my story with touring families and pay it forward for the next generation of students while I continue to gain experience and expand my leadership skills.”

Manzanares is grateful for the guidance, growth, and hands-on experience he acquired at Lynn. He credits Professor Daniel Ceccoli for helping him research veterinary schools, securing an internship in the Dominican Republic and embarking on his leadership role with FMP. Manzanares also expresses gratitude for Associate Professor Alanna Lecher, who piqued his interest in archaeological science and inspired him to delve into the history of animals and their impact on ecosystems.

Manzanares will pursue his Master of Science in biological sciences at Lynn and attend veterinary school shortly after. In the meantime, Manzanares is excited to expand his knowledge of animal and human science while volunteering at veterinary hospitals and engaging with Lynn’s student body as a peer leader.

The class of 2024 represents 39 U.S. States and territories and 153 international students from 60 countries. At Commencement, Lynn will award 388 master's and 594 bachelor's degrees.
