Lynn University today announced award-winning broadcast journalist and Fighting Knights alumna Lisa Gangel Kerney ‘04 will deliver the keynote address for its 2016 commencement. She also will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Lynn's graduation ceremonies will occur Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. for doctorate, graduate and iLynn students; and Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. for day undergraduate students. Both will be located at Lynn's de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center, and processionals will begin 30 minutes prior to start time.
Lynn will award nearly 400 bachelor's, over 250 master's and 12 doctoral degrees. Kerney will address the class of 2016 and their friends and families, as well as university trustees, faculty, staff and alumni.
"Lisa demonstrates the spirit, service and strength that truly defines a Lynn graduate, and there is no better person to commend our students on their special day than a fellow Fighting Knight," says President Kevin M. Ross. "With her impressive career accomplishments and inspiring attitude, we are honored to have Lisa as our first alumna commencement speaker."
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kerney attended Lynn on a basketball scholarship and majored in broadcast communications. She became team captain and was named Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. After graduating with honors, Kerney advanced in various roles across Butte, Montana; Seattle and New York. She joined ESPN in February 2014 as a studio host and currently anchors SportsCenter.
Kerney resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, and has four children with husband Patrick Kerney, a former All-Pro defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons. She is a member The Leadership Society and the President's Alumni Advisory Council at Lynn.
