With the new addition of an on-campus Central Energy Plant, Lynn University will now be able to reduce its energy consumption by 612,000 kilowatts a year, which is the equivalent of taking 90 cars off the road for a year. The plant is the key component in Lynn’s $10.7 million energy efficiency program, which is the largest single-phase university project of its kind in Florida.

Lynn University partnered with Siemens to complete the project, and now Lynn’s air-conditioning needs are being met by two 650-ton chillers located inside the plant. The Central Energy Plant also has room to add three additional 1,000-ton chillers for future construction such as new residence halls and a student center.dedication ribbon cutting

“The Central Energy Plant is a transformational facility in our university’s sustainability plans,”said Lynn President Kevin M. Ross.  “This addition fully supports our Going Green efforts, which all together will result in a 30 percent reduction in campus utilities costs.”

The chillers inside the plant will help in Lynn University’s goal of having the International Business Center achieve a LEED platinum rating, which is the highest award for ‘green’ structures. The Central Energy Plant is also the first plant of its kind in Boca Raton to use IRIS reclaimed water, which significantly reduces potable water consumption.
