Lynn alumna Victoria Granatelli proves it's never too late to finish your degree

Lynn University tassel for graduation.

Every journey has its detours and unexpected stops. For Victoria Granatelli '24, her path led away from completing her early childhood education degree after enrolling at Lynn University in 2012.

As the alumna was nearing graduation, her father began experiencing severe health conditions. With just six credits left to finish her degree, Granatelli made the difficult decision to return home and prioritize his health over her educational pursuits. As time went on, Granatelli continued her life and career without completing her degree.

However, the alumna recently had the opportunity to pick up where she left off 12 years ago, thanks to a strategic re-enrollment effort by Taryn Hamill, Lynn's director of enrollment management.

Granatelli, now a director at a special needs camp in New York, embraced the reconnection with Lynn with surprise and gratitude. "Lynn's dedication to its students, even years after they have left campus, is truly remarkable," said Granatelli.

Hamill's mission to get students to complete their degrees was perfectly reflected in her work to bring Granatelli back to Lynn. "When we sent communication, she was one of the first to respond—it was evident she wanted to finish her degree," said Hamill. "We want to help students reach that goal however we can." Hamill and her team quickly started communicating with Granatelli and worked with several departments to help her make this happen.

The student returns

Encouraged by the support from Lynn's staff, Granatelli decided to re-enroll and work on completing her degree online while also holding a full-time job. After she was accepted, Hamill and her team worked with the Financial Aid department to set Granatelli up for success and consistently checked in with her to ensure she excelled in her studies.

"We want whoever starts studying at Lynn to finish studying at Lynn," said Hamill. "The enrollment team is thrilled that Victoria was able to accomplish this goal. We are so proud of her!"

Achieving the goal

The alumna also found unwavering support from Lynn faculty and was touched by their dedication to teaching. Jennifer Lesh, associate professor in the College of Education, and Christopher Rice, associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, played pivotal roles in supporting Granatelli's journey to the finish line. "Dr. Lesh and Dr. Rice were extremely supportive and guided me through this journey," said Granatelli. "It meant everything to me. Dr. Rice's dedication went above and beyond, as he took the time to personally call me and provide assistance."

For Granatelli, returning to Lynn meant more than just earning a degree; it represented a second chance to fulfill her educational aspirations and prove to herself that she could overcome adversity and accomplish her academic goals. "Completing my degree has been a great experience," said Granatelli. "I am extremely grateful to Lynn for wanting me to finish," said Granatelli. "It meant so much to me that Taryn reached out and continuously motivated me throughout the completion."

Granatelli is excited to continue making a meaningful impact in her current role as a camp director. After 12 years, Victoria Granatelli was officially conferred in January 2024.
