Lynn University's priority remains focused on helping graduates fulfill their potential—and Career and Alumni Connections is doing just that. The team provides students with a vast number of resources to succeed after their college journey ends. From career fairs to job search tools, to networking and beyond—Lynn students have boundless opportunities available to allow them to reach their post-graduate goals.

Students have access to Handshake, the department's job search platform that has over 500,000 employers proactively using it as their main recruitment tool, as well as Interviewing.com on which they can practice their interview skills. The Career Connections office also offers a variety of helpful job-related videos on topics like interview preparation and tips for making your LinkedIn stand out to employers.

“We provide students with a variety of resources to help them move their career interests forward,” said Robert Nealon, Lynn career coach.

In today's world, students need to be one step ahead—that's why networking and meeting professionals is so important. Career Connections creates unique, targeted recruiting and networking environments for students at events such as “Career Fair Week,” with each day focusing on an industry students are studying.

Faculty help, too. “We work closely with faculty to identify candidates for positions, encourage students to participate in career events, supervise internships, and refer students to the office for career guidance and resources,” said Barbara Cambia, executive director of Career and Alumni Connections.

Career Connections encourages students to complete a minimum of one internship during their time at Lynn. Throughout the 2021–22 academic year, Lynn had just over 600 students participating in internships.

“It is important to recognize the competitive nature of today's job market. Students should use their college experience to not only do well in the classroom but also to gain valuable on-the-job experience by completing internships and other work opportunities,” said Nealon. Employers want to know what students have accomplished and having internships on their resume helps them stand out in today's ever-changing job market.

Co-curricular transcript: Pushing the limits for student success

In addition to career prep, Lynn offers an innovative new addition to one's portfolio: the co-curricular transcript. Officially launched in 2021, the co-curricular transcript is a document that allows students to display experience gained outside the classroom into highly sought skills that employers are looking for. “Engaging in as many opportunities beyond the classroom is necessary for students today. Developing and refining soft skills through programs, services and interactions our students are afforded daily helps to maximize each student's learning experience,” said Dr. Anthony Altieri, vice president for student affairs.

The transcript directly aligns with the National Association of Colleges and Employers' “career readiness competencies,” which include skills like equity and inclusion, leadership, critical thinking and teamwork. Students can track their individual progress online and share their personal links with employers or others as another tool when developing portfolios.

Students can stay up-to-date with upcoming career preparation events online and can explore opportunities to build their co-curricular by visiting the Center for Student Involvement.
