David Spohn

Dr. Spohn holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Business Management from Liberty University, as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in International Business from Florida International University. He earned a Doctorate degree in Business Administration (DBA) with a concentration in Finance from the University of Florida. After working as an Account Executive, he joined the United States Army as an Officer. Upon completing 10 years in the military, he resigned his commission to plan, coordinate, and fund a small private equity firm before pursuing an academic appointment at Lynn University.

As the instructor, it is my job to create an atmosphere where students can learn. I teach because I have a passion to encourage students in their learning process as well as a passion for the material I present. I have a desire to give back and provide guidance to future business leaders. I encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment, involving students in conversation about ideas and concepts being presented, and organizing material in a way that makes it easier to understand. I treat business subjects as interconnected, emphasizing that everything students learn fit together to give them a better understanding of the complex world in which they live and operate. I am an active participant in demonstrating not only how to find information, but how that information permeates all areas of life. I also like to use relevant topics and personal examples to emphasize the importance of the subjects being presented. Finally, I believe that respect for students is of utmost importance. This not only encourages them to be open to the material being presented, but also encourages them to respect each other.

One of the most important concepts that I hope to leave students is that learning is a lifelong process. This thought was the inspiration for me to go back to school and work on my doctorate, learning theoretical concepts, expanding my understanding of business, and learning to think like a scientist. My goal is to enhance an ease and confidence in front of classrooms and audiences, as well as refine presenting information to classes in a clear, concise manner to improve the overall learning atmosphere that I create for students.
