Professional profile

Benjamin Orifici comes to Lynn from the film faculty at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is an award-winning filmmaker whose feature and short films have screened in festivals around the world. Benjamin's cinematic exploration aims to challenge viewers' expectations by crafting unique visual and emotional landscapes to better understand current social issues.

Orifici holds an M.F.A in film directing and is a member of the Board of Advisors for the renowned Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan. He is the Festival Director of the New York City International Reel Film Festival and an Advisory Board member to the Havana Film Festival New York and the American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba. He is co-founder of the film production company, Celluloid Rain Productions, based in New York and Paris, France. His latest film, PostDemic, a futuristic cautionary tale on the dangers of political divisiveness, is currently on the festival circuit. An upcoming feature, An Extraordinary Affair, is in post-production and will be released in 2022. Orifici is a dual U.S. and French citizen. His film projects include PostDemic, An Extraordinary Affair, Havana Cowboy, Rubberneck, Acajou, Delivery Hour, Carroll Park, Brooklyn Breach, Speak Softly and Opus 40.

Teaching philosophy

Orifici aims to create a generous community in his classes where experimentation, trial and error, and originality are actively encouraged. He believes that students become better filmmakers through analyzing their setbacks, as well as their successes, and applying this hard-earned knowledge toward their next project.
