SCI 560Advanced Physiology

Building upon the lessons found in a general undergraduate physiology course, human physiology teaches the functions of the human body at a level required for clinical medicine. This course covers normal physiology, as well as abnormal physiological processes of selected diseases. Concepts are organized by system: nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and gastrointestinal. Students will be required to read and interpret selected advanced human physiological research and its application to understanding homeostatic principles. Additional content includes an introductory section on the cell and a final integration across the organ systems. The goal is for students to develop an understanding of the integrated functions of the normal body and problem-solving and critical-thinking skills when evaluating clinical situations.
