Professional Profile:

Mark Pickering joined the faculty at Lynn after teaching at Brigham Young University and the University of Rochester. His area of specialization is early modern philosophy, in particular Immanuel Kant's transcendental idealism. Pickering also has interests in ethical, legal, and political philosophy, and the philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel.  He earned his PhD from Boston University, and his dissertation advanced a phenomenalist interpretation of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason.

Teaching Philosophy:

Mark Pickering encourages students to critically examine accepted views and to think for themselves about whether they are justified or not.  If philosophical arguments are presented clearly and if students are induced to evaluate them, then students will see that philosophy is interesting and rewarding.
