A virtual graduation ceremony? After more than a year of Zoom calls and social distancing, the words "virtual commencement" made everyone cringe. But, for the Lynn University classes of 2020 and 2021, this online celebration was anything but the "new normal."
Requests for RSVPs went out. Graduates ordered their caps and gowns. Each participant received a surprise "grad box" in the mail. Inside, they found an "I did it!" banner, a selfie ring light, a selfie stick, a confetti popper and a diploma prop.
Then, the cameras started to roll. While staff and faculty worked tirelessly to capture all the makings of a traditional ceremony—from a faculty processional, equipped with gonfalons and all, to the speakers—seniors and now alumni uploaded videos of well-wishes and thanks for a college experience completed.
Together, professionally produced video and community-sourced clips created Lynn's Virtual Commencement ceremony, which debuted on May 15, 2021.
