Larry and Elaine Smith are longtime friends and donors of Lynn University, but above all, their passion lies in elevating the Lynn experience through all things athletics.

As part of a recent addition to plans for the Snyder Center for Health and Wellness, which is expected to open in late 2022, the Smiths gifted a 6,600-square-foot cardio and fitness area for the Lynn community. This gift will complement the Larry and Elaine Smith Strength Center, a 2,700-square-foot strength and conditioning area for student-athletes.

The Smiths are recognized at Lynn for their contributions to athletics. In 2016, they furnished five locker rooms on campus and named the Larry and Elaine Smith Women's Home Locker Room at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

"It's people like Larry and Elaine Smith whose generosity makes a difference for all of us," said Senior Vice President for Development Gregory J Malfitano '73, '75. "They understand the importance of philanthropy and that making these commitments will generate a lasting impact."

To escape from work and study, Larry spent his youth on the basketball court and the track field. He went on to play collegiate basketball and is now a current member of Lynn's Blue & White Club, which provides scholarships for student-athletes.

With their newest gift and undeniable love for athletics, the Smiths hope to spread their passion for fitness with the rest of the Lynn community.
