Lynn University announced it will add a second summer semester for undergraduate day students, which will be delivered remotely July 20–Aug. 14.

The announcement comes after Lynn expanded its summer courses in May. A record 540 students enrolled in the remote semester with intentions to get ahead now and take a longer winter break later. These additional summer courses also allow students build on the momentum and routine they’ve already established with their online lessons.

"As students settled in and established their schedules, work spaces and workflows, it was refreshing to see their academic performances steadily improve," said Professor Chad Barr '01. "My students inspired me to improve, as well, and to develop new content that engages them remotely."

Summer "B" for undergraduate day students is a four-week remote semester with 27 courses—some new to Lynn.

Assistant Professor Harika Rao worked with Apple to build the first Swift Coding course. "App economy is on the rise," she said. "Students will learn the creative process behind building an app in a short period of time and with minimum prior coding skills. Many believe app building is a technical skill, but there's so much more depth to explore."

Distinguished Professor of American History Robert Watson's History of Racism in America class will examine Black Lives Matter from various perspectives, including the history of race relations in the U.S., the civil rights movement and more. "This is a very timely and important topic, and I think students will enjoy discussing what they saw on the news the night before," he said.

For incoming students

The new summer term will help first-year students, in particular, get familiar with Lynn before they arrive in fall.

For those new to Lynn, faculty designed courses that have assigned class times and do not require iPad technology for completion. Students can use any computer with access to an internet browser. Faculty will host course content and assignments on Canvas, Lynn's learning management tool, and class sessions on Zoom or Chime.

First-year students can enroll in up to two of the following three-credit courses:

  • Aviation Flight Theory Studies
  • Business of Innovation
  • Principles of Management and Leadership
  • Introduction to Communication/Media
  • Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations
  • Digital Video Editing
  • Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • Introduction to Education
  • Principles of Marketing
  • Geopolitical Affairs
  • Human Behavior

"The remote learning experience over the past few months has really underscored the fact that Lynn University's innovative spirit is more than just words," said Amanda Main, associate professor, who will teach Business of Innovation and Principles of Business and Management. "I am excited to engage with my summer students and to address a host of critical questions facing our community in this time of shifting paradigms."

Students can register for courses through their academic adviser. Course descriptions and times are available at lynn.edu/schedule, under "Summer 'B' UG Day."
