Lynn University begins 2019–20 academic year with record-breaking enrollment

Freshmen pose with life-size Lynn letters in Christine's Park.

Lynn University today welcomed the largest class in its history. With more than 1,200 new students arriving for the fall semester, Lynn’s student population has grown 46%* in the past decade.

“We had close to 10,000 students apply for undergraduate admission and for the first time, the university had to close applications,” said Gareth Fowles, vice president for enrollment management. “We attracted more academically prepared and engaged students than ever before. This allowed us to stay true to our mission, while ensuring that the incoming class is diverse in interests, academics and cultures.”

Lynn’s approximately 850 new undergraduates hail from nearly 60 countries, with one student traveling as far as 8,872 miles from Pune, India. International students represent 17% of the incoming class.

Faculty and staff have been busy throughout the summer preparing campus for this record-breaking year.

It’s academic

The Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn College of Communication and Design added a master’s in digital media design. The college also added a strategic communication specialization for the M.S. in communication and media. The College of Business and Management added an MBA in leadership and management.

Millennium Campus Network and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) selected 16 Lynn students, through the Social Impact Lab, to participate in the 2019 Millennium Fellowship, a semester-long project that advances UN sustainable development goals. The program accepted only 6% of applicants—1,092 fellows from 69 campuses.

Advising Center capabilities expanded to guide students on everything from academics to student involvement. The center also added two advisers to support student success.

In addition, Dr. Katrina Carter-Tellison assumed her role as vice president for academic affairs and Mike Petroski was named academic dean. Petroski will also serve as interim dean of the College of Communication and Design.

Campus updates

A new resource desk in the Christine E. Lynn University Center lobby centralizes campus information to help students and faculty find answers to questions more efficiently.

The Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Library added directional signage to each floor. A permanent exhibit to honor Boca Raton leaders is currently under construction. It will make its debut during Founder’s Day, honoring local residents who made important contributions to Lynn and to the business, cultural and economic development of Boca Raton. Student leadership award winners are on display on the second floor of the university center, and new alumni profiles were added to the Schmidt College Center lobby.

The Women’s Center is now the Office of Student Wellness. Through health education, prevention programs, crisis support and strategies for student success, the office helps students maximize opportunities to live their best life. Charlotte Muriel serves as associate director and Allison Brachmann as coordinator.

Students and faculty can now find Lynn Creative Services on the first floor of the library for all of their printing needs.

IT Support Services

IT Support Services launched a new Service Center. The updated portal allows students, faculty and staff to find instructional documentation, as well as enter and keep track of service requests.

IT also implemented DUO two-factor authentication, a security solution that confirms the identities of Lynn users before granting access to university tools. In order to log into Office 365 off campus, students and employees must download DUO by Sept. 16.

There’s a new layer of security for myLynn, as well—users must log in to access secure information across the site.
