Alumni spotlight: Dr. Ana Flavia Zuim ’06

Alumna, Dr. Ana Flavia Zuim smiles for a photo.

It was a dream come true for Dr. Ana Flavia Zuim '06, when Alex Lacamoire, music director, orchestrator and conductor for the Broadway hip-hop musical sensation, Hamilton, offered her the role of rehearsal pianist.

At the time, Zuim was living in South Florida. She always had her heart set on working in New York City and on Broadway. Zuim joined the Hamilton company in 2016, the same year Lacamoire transitioned to the role of music supervisor for the different productions. As rehearsal pianist, Zuim had to learn to sing the entire musical book—rapping, singing and playing the piano all together. She also assists the cast as a vocal coach.

In addition to working on Broadway, Zuim serves as director of vocal performance and assistant professor of music at New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. She has a master’s degree in piano performance from Lynn University and a doctorate in fine and performing arts from Florida Atlantic University.
