Description

This course is designed to provide firefighters, mental health professionals, company officers, peer support team members and chief officers with a comprehensive understanding of how moral injury occurs.

Participants will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of moral injury in themselves and others and develop strategies for coping with and healing from moral distress. Exploring moral injury's impact, including its connection to suicide among firefighters, the course emphasizes the importance of organizational culture in fostering a supportive environment, while developing resiliency towards having a skill set to survive the exposure to future moral injury exposures.

Presenters

Michelle Fayed: Michelle Sabag Fayed is a firefighter/paramedic with over 23 years of experience, passionately advocating for first responder mental health. As a FRCE Behavior Health Advisory committee member and NFFF advocate, she drives positive change through research, education, and leadership, developing and implementing crucial peer support training programs. Fayed is a sought-after speaker at conferences and on podcasts like Behind the Shield, sharing her expertise on topics such as moral injury and family support. Her work is further disseminated through publications in Firehouse Magazine and Fire Engineering.

Alisha W. Singh, LMHC, NCC: Alisha W. Singh is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Qualified Supervisor for Florida Registered Mental Health Interns (QS-RMHI). She holds a master's degree in applied psychology from Lynn University and specializes in providing mental health support for First Responders, including Armed Service members.
