He has published hundreds of articles in a diverse range of publications, including Sports Illustrated, the United States Golf Association's Golf Journal, the American Bar Association' ABA Journal, Referee and Golf for Women.

Teaching philosophy

The groundbreaking psychologist B.F. Skinner once wrote, "Education is what remains when what was learned has been forgotten." Curtis believes that the key to this concept is that education requires the instilling of a deep understanding of the meaning of a message into each student. His teaching philosophy is that this occurs best through experiential learning and educational relevance. By making each lesson relevant to today's sports environment, lessons on every topic from NCAA athletics governance to professional sports league operations can be placed into context and best understood by the student. Curtis feels that with experiential learning, students actually put into action that which they have learned in the classroom, discovering "in a hands-on fashion" the true operations of the sports industries. In this way, indeed, Curtis advocates that a student gains a full education in the sports industries and is prepared to meet the challenges ahead.
