Michael Lewis B.A., M.A.

Michael Lewis serves as Instructor in the College of Liberal Education at Lynn University. He is very excited to be a member of the Lynn University community and to participate in the innovations taking place on Lynn's campus. He believes that The Dialogue course offerings provide an unmatched opportunity for students to learn in an interactive atmosphere and to take ownership of their education. Additionally, with the successful launch of the Citizenship Project, Lewis credits Lynn for equipping students and faculty to become contributing and productive members of their community–on campus, at home and in South Florida. He feels It is an honor and privilege to be a part of Lynn's mission and to serve Lynn's student body.

From an early age Lewis recognized the impact that altruistic teachers have had on his development as a learner and citizen. With their example as a guide, he has dedicated his professional career to imitate their service to his community. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 2006 as a history major, Lewis pursued graduate work in European history at James Madison University. Upon completion of his master's work, Lewis sought to apply his knowledge and gain work experience as a professional educator. In 2008, at the age of twenty three, he became an instructor at Palm Beach Atlantic University as well as a tutor at Lynn University's renowned Institute for Achievement and Learning. The experiences he gained from these positions have played a fundamental role in shaping his approach to education as an instructor in the Dialogues.

Passion for education and for students serves as the foundation for my teaching philosophy. Interacting with students and building positive relationships are important priorities when approaching class. Additionally, the idea that learning is exciting and empowering dictates course material as well as how it is presented to students. Lewis hopes to make the energy and passion that he brings to class palpable and contagious. This approach to teaching centers on engaging students in class and supplementing classroom instruction with learning aids, such as sample outlines, reading questions and lecture guides. Lesson plans are designed to relate course material to students' everyday lives and encourage active learning through peer dialogue within the classroom. Lewis' goal is to inspire and challenge students in order for them to fulfill their potential as autonomous critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
