Teaching philosophy

It's Ann Crawford's goal to enhance learning and promote student creativity through the use of a variety of teaching methods. She believes that students learn best when both they and their professors are engaged in the entire learning cycle of concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. Her belief is that each assignment should be relevant to the students' lives, and part of the learning task should involve an explicit or implicit statement of that relevance. Crawford's belief is that the professor's role is as much a facilitator of self-learning and organizer of the classroom community as it is as lecturer and knowledge-bearer. She feels that the classroom is a learning community, of which each student is an important member, and thus is needed to facilitate learning, to give feedback on others' service and ideas, and to participate in a variety of class experiences for the benefit of him or herself, as well as of the rest of the class.
