Teaching philosophy

As a professor, Jones positions herself not just as an educator, but also as a facilitator and collaborator. She believes students learn best when they take on active roles in the classroom and create meaning for themselves. Thus, to encourage critical thinking and active participation, she practices a student-centered, materially rich pedagogical approach with a focus on responding practices, from both peers and herself, as a central component. She does so with two goals in mind: 1) to keep students actively engaged in the lesson; and 2) to have students present information from multiple points of view so they can experience competing meanings and decide how they want to make meaning for themselves.
