The Merry Widow
New York touring company
Wednesday, March 11 - 7:30 p.m.*
Thursday, March 12 - 7:30 p.m.
Friday, March 13 - 7:30 p.m.
The Merry Widow - an operetta by Franz Lehar featuring such song favorites as "Vilia", "Maxims", "The Merry Widow Waltz" and "Girls, Girls, Girls" - tells the story of a young and attractive woman, Hanna Glawari, who inherited the country's fortune from her late husband and how a bankrupt kingdom's diplomats scramble to keep her inherited millions in their country. One of the most popular of all operettas, with its first public performance in 1905 in Vienna, The Merry Widow was an instant success, although it was thought rather risqué, given its romantic entanglements. More than a century later, the "Widow's" power to enchant remains undiminished.
Note: All performances are held in the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall in the de Hoernle International Building.
