ADA-AA Accommodations: To enable students to pursue their educational goals, Lynn University provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations that do not compromise the academic integrity of the class or university.
Academic Coaching: A cognitive integrative-based coaching model is used by certified coaches. Executive function issues are addressed, and we explore new learning strategies to reduce symptoms related to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Assistive Technology: The IAL offers a wide variety of computer software programs (Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Kurzweil, Inspiration, etc.) that help students achieve success with the reading and writing process.
Coherence Training: This training, offered through innovative Priming Sessions, helps students identify relationships that link ideas or themes in a text to create meaning for the reader.
Coping with Anxiety Related to Learning: Group sessions deal with helping prevent anxiety that results from test taking and learning challenges. The groups are facilitated by a master’s degree-level clinician.
Diagnostic Assessment: The IAL conducts a learning profile assessment (Alpha Profile) for every entering first-year student. Our clinicians also provide psycho-educational and neuropsychological evaluations (WISC, WAIS, etc.) if needed.
Distraction-Reduced Testing Environment: With appropriate documentation, all students have the option to take extended-time exams in a distraction-reduced testing center.
DSSO Self as Learner Course: This three credit course explores an individual’s personality, his/her relationship to society, the ways in which individuals learn and how different learning styles shape both our personal being and our interactions around us. In addition, this course incorporates neurology research to help students understand the relationship between learning for understanding and brain functioning.
Experiential Excursions: Through observing the growth and adaptive behavior of nature, students discover how to adapt their own environments to achieve personal and academic success. The excursions allow students to participate in activities that encourage wellness, illustrate sustainability and cultivate environmental awareness and responsibility.
Institute Section Classes: Some courses within the Dialogues of Learning are taught by IAL Fellows who are trained in learning differences and who use a variety of different teaching and learning strategies.
J-Term Institute Courses: These academic experiences focus on service to others while providing students the opportunity to interact with those in need both domestically and abroad.
Tutoring: Master’s and doctoral-level professionals offer a variety of tutoring options at the IAL’s Wayser Tutoring Center, including:
