The Citizenship Project - QEP
The Quality Enhancement Plan, better known as the QEP, is a university-wide initiative focused on improving student learning and is part of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaccreditation process. After consulting with the university community, Lynn selected The Citizenship Project: Commitment to Community as its QEP topic.
In the Citizenship Project, which will debut during the 2012 January Term, first-year students will take a course in the Dialogues of Innovation January Term that focuses on a civic issue, problem or topic and will engage in experiential learning opportunities and community service work with local, community-based partners. Thematic areas for the courses include homelessness, environmental sustainability and urban renewal. The selected partner organizations include Gumbo Limbo, Habitat for Humanity, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the United Way.
The Citizenship Project will promote further integration between first-year students’ academic and co-curricular experiences. In addition, The Citizenship Project will create a common, required educational experience for all first-year students that will link the thematic components of the Dialogues of Learning core curriculum—the Dialogues of Self and Society in the fall semester, the Dialogues of Innovation during the January Term, and the Dialogues of Justice and Civic Life in the spring semester.
