Journalism is a service industry that is continually evolving, requiring students and faculty alike to always look ahead. The Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Journalism combines training in journalism theory and practice with a curriculum that recognizes the field’s constant growth. Students are offered both technical training and practical experience in news, feature and social media reporting in an advanced and state-of-the-art facility. Gradates of the Multimedia Journalism program are given the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to advance in a variety of careers in broadcast, print and Internet media.
Providing this unique combination of technique and practice, students work on a multitude of projects that the College of International Communication hosts, including the award-winning newspaper, iPulse, which is the premier connection to the Lynn community. iPulse also includes an interactive and innovative Internet site, providing newsworthy broadcast information to the Web audience at large. iPulse recently received accolades including being named the Best College Newspaper and Best College Website by the Florida College Press Association. Also, the Southeast Journalism Conference awarded Lynn’s iPulse website “first place” among conference schools (2012).
Students are also introduced to student clubs and organizations and are assisted in identifying internship opportunities that not only meet their personal needs, but that can serve as a first step in a professional career. Students have participated in a variety of different workshops and lectures at notable locations, including the New York Times, National Public Radio and ESPN, along with interning at prominent news organizations such as Sun-Sentinel, WPTV Channel 5 (NBC), Boca Magazine, Gulfstream Media Group, Telemundo and MTV.
