Master of Education in Exceptional Student Education - Track Two
Education
The ESE program consists of completing several courses which will provide students with the skills needed to work with a diverse group of children with disabilities in a K-12 setting. The courses focus on learning pedagogical content theory, knowledge and clinical experiences in the field as well as practical application. The intent is to produce graduates who, as teachers, are able to address the needs of the increasingly diverse student population and can provide leadership for innovative programs to coordinate professional activities to better serve these students.
Graduate Admission Standards for M.Ed. Program
Students are required to meet the following prerequisites for admission to the program:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts of all academic
coursework attempted. - Current résumé.
- Statement of professional goals and a writing sample demonstrating
the capacity to perform at the graduate level. - Two recent letters of recommendation; these can be from professional
or academic sources but must be interactions that occurred with the last
six months.
M.Ed. Degree Completion Requirements
- Complete the degree in a maximum of four calendar years from the date
on a student’s initial registration or be held to any new degree requirements. - Maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA and achieve a B (3.0) grade or higher in
each course. - Complete a minimum of 30-36 credits.
- Pass FTCE Exceptional Student Education (ESE) certification subject
area examination.
Master of Education in Exceptional Student Education (ESE)

Program Options: Track Two
TRACK TWO is for individuals who are already certified teachers but seek a Master’s degree in ESE.
This Masters degree requires a minimum of 33 credit hours and does not require practicum or student teaching but instead requires a Graduate Project. Students in this track will pick one specialization from the three offered. Students are also required to earn a passing score on the ESE subject area exam. The State of Florida may require additional courses in the field for certification, prior to issuing the five-year certificate.
