Chamber music is a cornerstone of the Lynn experience. We believe the study of chamber music is fundamental to the development of the complete artist and marketable musician, and to that end, chamber music is a required course for every semester of a student’s tenure at Lynn. There are 25-30 groups formed each semester, ranging from duos to octets, which meet weekly on Tuesday or Thursday morning to rehearse and receive coaching. All groups are required to perform every semester and have multiple opportunities to do so, including the weekly Performance Forum, community outreach events, master classes and chamber juries. The groups that distinguish themselves are then placed on either the Dean’s Showcase series or the bi-yearly Chamber Honors Concert.

We encourage our students to participate in competitions and offer financial support to the groups that bring their work to a competitive, professional level. Members of the world-renowned Empire Brass Quintet have created a brass chamber program which has produced several prize winning quintets, and the piano department has been competitively successful with several duo piano teams. Many string and piano groups have also won prizes in competitions, including the Coleman and MTNA Young Artist Chamber.
