Working in partnership with the international relief agency Food for the Poor, Lynn University is sponsoring a drive to collect relief items for the hurricane victims in Haiti. Last spring, a group of students traveled with the Food for the Poor organization, and for five days witnessed and experienced for themselves the extreme poverty in Haiti.

Members from the local community are invited to bring items to Lynn’s campus. The items most needed for storm victims are canned meat, canned fish, dry beans, bottled water, first-aid items, personal hygiene items and blankets. Security officers at Lynn’s main gate (located on Military Trail) will collect the donations 24 hours a day.

“I traveled to Haiti last spring. It was a life-changing experience for me,” noted Lynn junior and president of Lynn’s student organization, Students for the Poor, Dan Hennessey. “We really want to do all we can to help the Haitians – especially after the devastation from hurricane Ike – that’s why we organized this drive.”
