Students Debuting Broadway Show in Boca
Published Nov. 17, 2008
This winter the Lynn University Drama Program will be sending 19 students and 2 faculty directors to New York City to debut “From Boca to Broadway,” a compilation of 10 short, one act plays. The show will make its Broadway premiere January 13 – 18 at the Sage Theater in Times Square, but prior to that performance, students will debut the show on campus with five show times: 8 p.m., Wednesday – Friday, Nov. 19 – 21; and 2 and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall in the de Hoernle International Center.
The 10 one act plays (including one by Lynn faculty member and another by a Lynn student) were selected from more than 70 plays submitted from playwrights across the country. “One of the most challenging tasks of this project is creating a show where such different pieces can interrelate,” stated director Carrie Simpson. “We have plays ranging from the topics of suicide to video games, global warming, and dating. I’m excited to see it all come together.”
“It’s every actor’s dream to be on Broadway, and it’s amazing that we get to perform there,” stated student actor Allison Huntley. “Lynn University is the only school in the country to provide such an opportunity and I feel very privileged to be a part of this journey.”
The Boca to Broadway experience is one of the 74 innovative, educational (and often experiential) January term courses being offered in the new year for Lynn students.
