Barbara CambiaLynn University’s career center has a new name and a new strategy. Barbara Cambia, executive director for the Hannifan Center for Career Connections, already is helping students benefit.

The new center, designed in an open and cheerful environment, is conveniently located near classrooms, study areas and the popular university coffee house. A friendly receptionist greets students and connects them with a counselor that can help address their needs.

“We asked ourselves what students need from a career center and worked backward to ensure we delivered those student-centric objectives,” said Cambia. “The center’s resources prepare students for life after college, from learning how to interview, gaining experience speaking with professionals and landing internships with well-known organizations. We even can help them understand how their current social media lives may impact their futures.”

Cambia feels strongly about the value delivered through on- and off-campus internship experiences.

“We have the resources and the vision to help students achieve their career aspirations,” Cambia continued. “Having an internship is an advantage our students will have as they enter the workforce. My team works closely on a day-by-day basis with organizations from across South Florida. We know what employers are looking for, and our mission is to connect the right students with the right opportunities.”

Cambia is used to making connections. In her previous role as director of corporate relations, Cambia regularly connected with the community and helped develop relationships with organizations and corporations that now are turning their interest to Lynn students.
