Patricia and Carlos discuss their summer 2010 internships and their roles as editors-in-chief for Lynn’s iPulse
Patricia Lammle, a junior from Nicaragua majoring in multimedia journalism, and Carlos Sanz, a senior from Spain majoring in advertising and public relations, are honor students in Lynn University’s College of International Communication. For a second consecutive year, Patricia and Carlos are editors-in-chief of Lynn’s student newspaper, the iPulse.
Their experiences working with the iPulse helped them land summer 2010 internships at prestigious newspapers.
- Patricia interned for the Sun Sentinel located in South Florida. Her duties included working on the editorial board section of the paper, in addition to writing for El Sentinel, the Spanish edition of the Sun Sentinel. Two of Patricia’s articles were published on the cover of the Sentinel’s Outlook section in the Sunday edition.
- Carlos traveled back to his hometown, City of Counts, in Barcelona, Spain, for his internship. Amidst the World Cup frenzy, he worked in the sports section of La Vanguardia, Catalounia’s leading newspaper headquartered in Spain and had his sports articles published during the time his country won the World Cup.
As editors-in-chief of the iPulse, Patricia and Carlos have had the opportunity to cover many national and international events. Among the celebrities they’ve met and interviewed are Raphael Nadal at the Sony Ericsson Open and NBA star Dwyane Wade at a Miami Heat practice.
On Oct. 12, both editors were selected to take part in the congressional debate between candidates Ron Klein and Allen West held on campus. Carlos joined the panel of journalists on stage. Following the debate, Patricia was given the opportunity to interview both candidates backstage.
With a resume full of hands-on experiences, Patricia and Carlos are already planning for the future.
“I aspire to work as an editor for a magazine such as National Geographic,” said Patricia.
Although Carlos has not decided on his future path, he says the only thing he is certain about, "is that when I graduate I want to pursue a career that makes me happy. I’ve recently discovered a passion for television that I can’t wait to explore.”
