Journey of Hope – Haiti

Lynn University is friendly, global and giving. New students feel right at home when they arrive. This tight-knit family is something we've worked hard to accomplish since our founding in 1962. And although every community has its highs and lows, in January 2010 Lynn University experienced a true tragedy.

On Jan. 11, 2010, 12 students and two faculty members arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for their January Term course, a Journey of Hope – Haiti. They were on a mission to help those in need; they volunteered their time and resources. The next day, a 7.0- magnitude earthquake struck, causing devastation throughout the island nation. Eight of the Lynn University students returned home, but four students and two professors were lost.

Now, each year on January 12, students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the Lynn community gather to honor the lives lost through a series of “Knights Unite” community service activities and during a moment of silence at the Remembrance Plaza.

The following online memorial is our way of remembering those lost and those who returned home. Visit the Journey of Hope - Haiti memorial site to read their stories.
