Professional Profile

After graduating from the University of Miami, Robert Green joined his family’s business where he had a 25-year career. The company expanded from being only in the construction and coal mining industries to hospitality (hotels) and broadcasting (radio stations). During his time with the firm, the company went from 400 employees to about 2,000 and doing business domestically (in the Midwest and Southeast regions) to internationally (Europe and Asia). Green was active in leadership position for professional organizations, e.g., Indiana Chamber of Commerce, community organizations, e.g., Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, YMCA, and education, e.g., College of Business and Public Affairs Dean's Advisory Council at Murray State University.

After leaving industry, Green began teaching at Indiana State University before coming to Lynn University in 2000. He left Lynn for almost three years to teach internationally, first as the head of a graduate business program in the United Arab Emirates and then as a faculty member at a university in Ecuador and returned in 2005. He has more than 40 refereed research publications, of which two have been recognized with outstanding research awards. He serves on editorial boards for four academic journals and serves as a reviewer for marketing textbooks. Green belongs to the American Marketing Association and other professional marketing organizations and has held leadership positions in the Academy of Marketing Science, Marketing Management Association, Society for Marketing Advances, Atlantic Marketing Association and Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators.

Teaching Philosophy
Having 25 years of corporate experience, I have a strong dedication to textbook learning and application approach (action learning) that leads to lifelong learning – "learning how to learn" – for the teaching/learning experience. Textbooks provide the basis for solving problems or taking advantage of opportunities, but the real learning experience is the integration of theory, cross-functional/interdisciplinary implications and its application, such as case studies, practical exercises, and most importantly “lives" application projects. It is a “cheaper” and longer lasting learning experience to earn a grade of B instead of an A (for a misapplication) than to make a million dollar mistake in business (for a bad decision). By the time undergraduate students reach middle or upper management, what they learned will be very much dated, hence the value (and reason) that I place on lifelong learning – the skills, knowledge and experience of "learning how to learn."
