With their example as a guide, he has dedicated his professional career to imitate their service to his community. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 2006 as a history major, Lewis pursued graduate work in European history at James Madison University. Upon completion of his master’s work, Lewis sought to apply his knowledge and gain work experience as a professional educator. Teaching Philosophy

Passion for education and for students serves as the foundation for my teaching philosophy. Interacting with students and building positive relationships are important priorities when approaching class. Additionally, the idea that learning is exciting and empowering dictates course material as well as how it is presented to students. I hope to make the energy and passion that I bring to class palpable and contagious. This approach to teaching centers on engaging students in class and supplementing classroom instruction with learning aids, such as sample outlines, reading questions and lecture guides. Lesson plans are designed to relate course material to students’ everyday lives and encourage active learning through peer dialogue within the classroom. My goal is to inspire and challenge students in order for them to fulfill their potential as autonomous critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
