Professional Profile

Marsha Glines was the founding president of Beacon College prior to her appointment at Lynn University in 1991. During her first ten years at Lynn she created and supervised alternative, innovative programs, including an undergraduate human services degree: The Advancement Program, and the Lynn Educational Alternative Program. As a former public school resource room teacher, graduate school professor/administrator and consultant, she brings with her a diversified career and a national reputation in teaching and learning theory, special education, non-traditional program design and higher education curriculum development.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emerson College and a Master of Education degree with special education certification from Lesley College Graduate School, Glines continued her studies in education as a special studies student at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. In October 1988, she was awarded her Ph.D. in higher education administration from the Union Institute.

In 2003, Glines completed Dr. Mel Levine’s All Kinds of Minds clinical training at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She also completed seven hours of training in cerebral dominance and the brain through the Institute for Natural Resources. In July 1999, Glines participated in Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education Programs in Professional Education, “The Project Zero Classroom ’99: Views on Understanding,” a series of sessions providing training on “Teaching for Understanding,” multiple intelligence theory, learning with and through the arts and assessment. In December 1988, she enrolled in a three-day training workshop through the Psychiatric Times U.S. Psychiatric Congress in New York. She earned 23 hours of Continuing Medical Educational units.

In 2004 Glines was published in a Learning Disabilities Worldwide book “On Post-Secondary Opportunities for Learning Disabled Students: Establishing Connections” in “Many Shades of Success – Other Views of Post Secondary Options;” and in 2001, Glines’ work was discussed in author Mary Fowler’s “Maybe You Know My Teen.” A chapter authored by Glines appears in “Transitional Skills for Post Secondary Success,” published in 2001.

Glines has been the keynote speaker and graduation speaker at the 2005 Small Boarding School conference at Vanguard School, Forman School and St. Francis High School. Emerson College honored Marsha in June 2000 with the Emerson College Alumni Achievement Award for her work in the field of education.

Most recently, Glines has conducted teacher training workshops in Bogotá, Colombia, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Puerto Rico. She is a frequent presenter at various conferences pertaining to higher education. Glines has led six educational study tours to Dublin, Ireland for Lynn University students and in 2009 co-facilitated and led a group of students to Kingston, Jamaica on a Journey of Hope: Food for the Poor program.
