Harry Murphy is an assistant professor in the College of International Communication. He was a professional actor for more than 25 years, earning a B.F.A. from Florida Atlantic University and an M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama. His Broadway credits include “Othello,” “Macbeth,” “The Good Times are Killing Me” and “Big Time,” among others. His film and TV credits include guest starring roles on “Cosby,” “Law and Order,” “Kojac,” “Spenser for Hire,” “Calendar Girl,” “The Return,” “Eddie Macon’s Run” and “The Pool,” among others. In 1981 he was a founding member of Robert Brustein’s American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA, where he performed in more than 60 productions. He helped in the founding of the ART Institute and toured extensively with the company. He has worked regionally in the United States and Canada, as well as touring through Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

As a professional actor, Harry Murphy worked in an environment that required ego, passion, and commitment. An actor must have an ego that can withstand constant criticism and rejection and overcome such rejection through passion for the artistic rewards and resolve through a commitment to the craft.
